Leigh Simard - Music Instructor
The development of Leigh's unique style of teaching and sharing is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in a talented musical family meant that she was always surrounded by different forms of music.
Born in Southern Ontario, her first foray into learning an instrument came when she started to play the piano at the age of 4 years old. She immediately connected with the art and diligently studied the until age 14. She then took a break from formal lessons at which time she discovered her calling to compose classical music. She returned to the Royal Conservatory of Music lessons and also picked up the guitar to accompany her love of singing.
Leigh relocated to Vancouver BC where she spent eight years pursuing her musical experience. She lived, worked and performed with musicians, collaborating on styles ranging from jazz, blues, folk, and electronica. She spent 2 years studying theory, vocal, and television and film scoring under the late David Malecot of MME Music Studio.
Having a keen interest in Music Therapy, Leigh enrolled in the program at Capilano College in north Vancouver. Her goal as a teacher is to encourage her students' creativity while learning the language and to promote music as a joyous, lifelong journey of history, healing, interpretation and wellness.
Leigh resides in Windsor with her five year old daughter and is extremely excited to be a part of Xtreme DanceWorks.
